Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
After a tragedy in life, I happened a long by a tree
That someone had placed some beautiful roses.
There I thought of the one who gave His life
To make life bearable for me.
You see in every tragedy there is a ray of hope for all
Because Christ will not let us go it alone.
Someone had taken the time to put these roses out
To give some light and to ease the pain for us that remain.
So as you look at the beautiful roses, think of God and our
Heartache He knows.
As this will help to soften life’s hard blows.
David M. Langley
David retired from SMG on September 22nd, 2019. We are currently seeking a new pastor.

David received his license to preach in June of 1972 and was ordained June of 1973 as a Free Will Baptist Minister. He graduated in 1978 from the Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN. In October of 1983, David was ordained as an Original Free Will Baptist Minister. David has served as Pastor of the Saint Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church since July of 2011.
David married Mary Marcia Winslow of Greenville in September of 1972. They have two children - Rachel Embler and Michael Langley. Rachel and her husband Chris have blessed them with four wonderful grandchildren - Asher, Anna, Simeon, and Saleah. Michael and his wife Sarah have blessed them with a granddaughter - Karley.
Part of David's ministry was as a volunteer Police Chaplain. He was trained in Virginia Beach, VA and served for six months in Virginia Beach. After starting the Chaplaincy Program in Greenville, he served as their Police Chaplain for 17 years before retiring. David had also served as Chaplain for the Basic Law Enforcement Training at Johnston Community College.
Some of his favorite verses are:
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.
II Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”.
I John 4:4
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
Those verses summarize his life. They tell of having to overcome fear and needing strength to do what God wants him to do.
God has blessed David to have been in the ministry for over thirty five years. Humor plays an important part in witnessing to those who cross his path during the day. Poems are another way for him to express his thoughts on life’s journey.
